photo_runnerA Fantastic Trip through a Magical Region I did a 5 day tour in Reserva Manu. It was quite an experience to descend from the highlands into a very unique part of the Amazon and spend some days there. I especially enjoyed the scenery (Imagine floating down a river in the Amazon and still seeing snow-capped Andes in the distance) and the bird life (very unique, colorful, and abundant). Joseph was friendly, attentive, and safety-conscious. He shared a lot of local knowledge about the people, animals, and history of the region. Mateo JThe Amazon rainforest like I never imagined Four days was the perfect amount of time to really settle into the rhythm of the jungle. We canoed on oxbow lakes, hiked through primary forest, learned about medicinal plants, and watched macaws gather at the clay lick every morning. Our guide Jose was exceptional calm, knowledgeable, and incredibly observant. He spotted a tapir on day three that we completely would have missed. Within hours of arriving at the lodge we saw blue and yellow macaws at the clay lick, monkeys swinging through the canopy, and hoatzins on the lake. The night walk was spooky and thrilling — our guide spotted a caiman with his flashlight from 20 meters! The lodge was comfortable and the food was surprisingly great. Andreas H50+ species in one day A birder's dream I've done birding tours on four continents and this was genuinely one of the best. We started at Huacarpay Lagoon at dawn and the waterfowl activity was incredible. Then the Ensifera Hummingbird Garden in the afternoon — I saw the Sword-billed Hummingbird for the first time in my life and nearly cried. Watching Andean condors — with their enormous wingspans — soaring above the valleys was breathtaking. Our guide knew exactly where and when to position us for the best views. Witold JThe most stunning lake I've ever seen Turquoise waters surrounded by snow-capped peaks — it looked like a painting. The hike was moderate but rewarding, and our guide kept the energy up the whole way. Breakfast and lunch were both included and genuinely tasty. They even had horses available for the ascent, which was kind and thoughtful. I was nervous about altitude sickness but they had everything covered including first aid and coca leaves. The Valley tour took us through Chinchero, the weaving demonstrations were fascinating, and Ollantaytambo blew our minds. Our guide never rushed us and always made time for questions. Andean Condor Flight full-day adventure begins at 7:30 am. with a morning pickup in Cusco, followed by a scenic drive through the Anta plains and Limatambo, with breathtaking views of the Salkantay and Humantay mountains and opportunities to spot native bird species along the way. Upon arrival at the traditional village of Chonta, you’ll set off on a gentle 4 km hike along a panoramic trail overlooking the Apurímac Canyon, leading to the Chonta Lookout. Here, while enjoying a packed lunch, you’ll witness the unforgettable sight of Andean condors gliding gracefully on thermal currents, their massive wingspans silhouetted against the vast canyon backdrop. The hike is about 4 km (2.5 miles) each way on a well-marked trail with gradual inclines. It’s considered easy to moderate and suitable for most travelers in good health.
Condors can be seen year-round at Chonta, but sightings are often more frequent during the dry season (May to October), when skies are clearer.
While sightings are very common, condors are wild animals and cannot be guaranteed. However, the location is one of the best in Peru for observing them.
No special gear is required, but binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens will enhance your experience. Binocular rentals are available upon request.

The lookout sits at approximately 3,400 meters (11,155 feet) above sea level. We recommend spending at least a day in Cusco before the tour to acclimate.
