Day 1Cusco – Ensifera Hummingbird Garden

Start your journey from Cusco in the morning, heading towards high Andean lagoons situated at 3445 m.a.s.l. Surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, these lagoons serve as a vital habitat for resident and migratory waterfowl, creating a perfect setting for photography and birdwatching enthusiasts. Immerse yourself in the ancient traditions of Chinchero, a town preserving its original culture.

Continuing the adventure, visit the Hummingbird Sanctuary, a preserved haven tailored for photography and bird watching. Savor a delightful lunch featuring local, organic products. Conclude the day’s exploration in Ollantaytambo, where you will spend the night, surrounded by the rich cultural tapestry of the Sacred Valley

Day 2Ollantaytambo – Abra Málaga – Cloud Forest Expedition

Commence your day with an ascent to 13,878 ft – 4,230 m, reaching the pinnacle of Abra Málaga, renowned as one of Cusco’s premier birdwatching locales. This extreme habitat hosts unique birds adapted to its challenging climate, making it a hotspot for encountering endemic species like Royal Cinclodes, White-browed Tit-Spinetail, Chesnut-breasted Mountain-Finch, White-tufted Sunbeam, Rusty-fronted Canastero, and Creamy-crested Spinetail.

Marvel at a diverse array of hummingbirds, including Giant, Black and Green-tailed Trainbearers, Great Sapphire-wing, Shining Sunbeam, Sparkling Violetear, Tyrian Metatail, Sword-billed, and more. Surrounding this extraordinary birdwatching experience are landscapes adorned by sacred snow-capped mountains, such as La Veronica or “Wakaywillca” (meaning sacred tears) at 19,202 ft – 5,850 m.

Descend through various habitats, including the polylepis forest and cloud forest, arriving at our lodge for an evening exploration to spot nocturnal birds and owls.

Day 3Cloud Forest to Machu Picchu Exploration

Begin the day with a birdwatching excursion along the lodge’s paths in the cloud forest, seeking out endemic species like Inca wren, Marcapata spinetail, Unstreaked tit-tyrant, Cuzco brush finch, Parodi’s Hemispingus, and Vilcabamba tapaculo. Depending on the season, discover native orchids and characteristic flora adding a touch of natural beauty to the surroundings.

Following this enriching activity, our journey continues along the Urubamba or Vilcanota river until we arrive at Machu Picchu, the renowned wonder of the world.

Day 4Machu Picchu – Cusco

Explore the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, nestled in the heart of the Cloud Forest, a protected habitat spanning over 35,500 hectares. Home to endangered species like the Andean Bear, Puma, Andean Cat, and diverse bird species, this sanctuary offers a unique blend of history and nature.

Activities commence early, focusing on Birdwatching in Machu Picchu. Following this, ascend to explore the main temples, astronomical observatories, and squares during a guided tour of the Inca citadel. Concluding our visit, we return to the city of Cusco via train.
